What does it mean to be “lo-fi”? Lo-fi stands for low-fidelity. The subculture of lo-fi hip hop is about embracing imperfections and creating a comfortable and nostalgic listening experience. Instead of the polished sounds of mainstream hip hop, lo-fi artists opt for softer and unrefined sound quality, often utilizing sampled beats from crackling vinyl and old record player sounds.

This zine is an appreciation of the highs and lows of fidelity in context of the musical genre.

I split the visual language of this subculture into 2 different modes. Lo-fi mornings are gentle wake ups, while late nights are busy but dedicated study/gaming sessions. They are like two sides of a coin: high and low-fidelity; day and night; study go-ers and gamers; lo-fi girl, and lo-fi boy.

I listened to lo-fi on infinite loop while working on this project.
